2030 Pitchers Commanding The Circle In Big Games

On many occasions, softball fans may be more drawn to box scores of 12-10 or 14-11 offensive slugfests than they would be to 2-1 or 1-0 pitchers' duels.    But a pitcher is the leader of a team's defense for a reason. One has to prepare for the possibility that a team's bats may have off games, and the arms in the circle can still carry the team to victory.   Below, Prep Softball highlights five pitchers from the high school class of 2030 who command the circle in big games.    Rayelee Johnson is following up an eighth-grade season with Fullington Academy with what appears to be another solid campaign in 2026. The high school softball season takes place during the fall in Georgia, and Johnson's Trojans appear poised to improve on their nine-win campaign from last year. She already leads the state in strikeouts with 17 in the early portions of the season. Recently, Fullington Academy posted a 13-0 victory in four innings over Vidalia Heritage Academy. Johnson only tossed two innings but managed to strike out five Eagles batters in those frames. She also threw three innings of relief in a 10-5 win over Windsor Academy in the Trojans' season opener, during which she fanned seven Knights batters. During the travel months, she plays for Atlanta Vipers Gold 2030 Patterson.      Brooklyn McClintock is a three-sport athlete who also plays basketball and volleyball in addition to her growing list of softball accomplishments. It is appropriate that she also plays first base, considering she stands at 6'1". McClintock's right arm greatly helped her CA Grapettes Cook/Cordoza team earn runner-up status at the Softball World Series in Reno. In a 12-2 victory over Nevada Lightning Carson 14U, McClintock only had to toss four innings but struck out five batters in those four frames while allowing just one walk. She places an emphasis on having a variety of pitches in her arsenal and understands the importance of being accurate with her location.      Norah Griffin's Bombers Gold Futures 14U team concluded its season at the Alliance Fastpitch Tier II Championship, and she was named to the All-Tournament Team. At the beginning of the month, she and her squad also put together a solid performance at the Colorado Sparkler. Griffin tossed 22 innings and allowed only three earned runs while striking out 26 batters and maintaining a sub-one ERA. A highlight of Griffin's spring season occurred at the Aggieland Classic, when she helped her team win the 14U championship and reached a new personal best of 64 miles per hour. Griffin is a multi-sport athlete who also competes in track and field.      The summer season for Alexis Leavitt and her ROI Fastpitch Davis 14U team finished up at the NAFA Nationals in Minnesota. Leavitt tossed 28 innings while not allowing a walk and striking out 33 batters with a 2.47 ERA. She was also key in getting her team to the bracket stage of the Midwest National Championship in mid-July. Three pitches that she particularly places an emphasis on are her riseball, curveball, and changeup. Back in May, Leavitt had an opportunity to participate in her first PGF tournament—the Diamond Legacy Red White and Blue. She pitched 18 innings with a 2.33 ERA during her time in Arkansas.      Farrah Cupala already has a pair of USSSA All-American selections as part of her growing list of softball achievements. In May, she and her Athletics Mercado Dolby team took part in the USA Capital Region Invitational tournament. Cupala was in the circle for 14 innings, including two of relief while striking out eight and allowing only one walk and one earned run. In June, she helped her team win the 14U Fever Frenzy USA Eastern National Qualifier Tournament. In addition to throwing strikes for her squad, she also calls strikes (and balls) since she was recently certified as a Little League umpire.
