Top Slappers Creating Chaos This Summer

A great slapper can make a defense uncomfortable from the moment she steps into the batter's box. These players can beat out a routine ground ball, drop down a bunt, or drive the ball into the gaps when they see fit.   Below, Prep Softball highlights some of the top slappers who are creating chaos this summer on the travel ball circuit.    Sienna Bocchino is the definition of a true table-setter. The 2026 Ole Miss commit is a speedy left-handed hitter who can beat a defense in just about every way. She can drop down a bunt, slap the ball through a hole, or drive it with authority when the defense creeps in. From the first pitch of an at-bat, Bocchino forces defenders to make quick decisions and can turn a rushed throw or small mistake into an opportunity for her team. Once she reaches base, her speed changes the game and puts even more pressure on the defense. She's the spark at the top of the lineup that every team wants.     Brooklynn Cipalla knows how to use the slapping game to get on base and put pressure on a defense. The 2027 outfielder hit .415 with a .489 on-base percentage, scored 24 runs, and stole nine bases last summer. She has carried that strong play into this summer. Her speed is a big part of her game, but she can also use the short game and place the ball based on how the defense plays her. Once on base, Cipalla looks for opportunities to take an extra base and put herself in scoring position. She has also earned All-State honors and holds several school records. These include career marks in batting average, runs, stolen bases, and on-base percentage. Brooklyn Cipalla is a slapper to keep an eye on.     Shelbi Alphonso's speed makes her a tough out at the plate and a difference-maker in center field. The 2027 standout slapper has consistently hit .500, using her short game and speed to keep defenses working. She uses the ground well and does a good job placing the ball. That same speed allows her to cover plenty of ground in the outfield and track down balls in the gaps. Alphonso has played travel ball with LA Voodoo since she was 9 and has continued to grow within the organization. She also earned All-State honors this year after another strong season at Mount Carmel Academy. Whether she's at the plate or in center field, Alphonso's speed is always a factor.     Ansley Brown can give a defense problems in several different ways from the leadoff spot. The 2027 uncommitted triple threat can drag bunt, slap, or swing away for power. She hit .365 in Colorado and is coming off a high school season in which she hit .503 with a .574 on-base percentage, three home runs, and 82 stolen bases. Brown can adjust her approach to the situation, whether her team needs her to get on base or drive in a run. No matter what the situation calls for, Ansley Brown is ready to succeed in those moments.     Taya Hall is a true slapper who knows how to work an at-bat. The 2027 LLG Premier 16U Shelton/Corn standout works the count and gets out of the box quickly, giving herself a chance to beat out balls on the ground. She is not an easy out and forces pitchers to work. Once Hall reaches base, her feel for the game shows. She is always looking for an opportunity to grab an extra base and knows when to be aggressive. Her speed and awareness make her a constant threat on the bases. The center fielder and second baseman currently holds four Division I offers and is expected to make her college decision this month.
