While the California high school softball season is in full swing, Kylie Byrd is still just heating up. So far, she sits at a batting average of .296, with 8 hits and 8 RBIs on the year. Recently, against Encinal, West led her team to victory with a stellar performance at the plate. She went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, a triple, and a stolen base. She can do it all at the plate, even driving the ball over the fence on a slap hit. Her speed is among the best around, as she is already standing on first base by the time infielders even pick up some of her slaps and can turn a single into a triple if an outfielder misplays the ball even slightly. Byrd is not afraid to put her body on the line in the field, selling out to catch pop flies in foul territory on the dead run. She is a maniac on the basepaths, with the ability to stay in a rundown long enough to allow another runner to score and still take an extra base herself. Byrd has attended camps at Washington, UCLA and Arkansas.
