Expert Analysis
Caylan Arnold Elliott | Prep Softball Scout
Ella Tweed already shows a level of control and poise that separates her from most pitchers in the 2030 class. Sitting at 63 mph, she pairs her velocity with the ability to consistently fill up the zone and stay ahead in counts. What stands out most is her ability to command both sides of the plate without giving hitters anything easy to handle. In a March matchup against James Island, Tweed put together a performance that reflects her advanced feel for pitching, recording 13 strikeouts without issuing a single walk. That type of outing highlights not just her stuff, but also her discipline and confidence in attacking hitters. Her changeup is a true weapon. She uses it with purpose, not just as a show pitch, and it consistently generates swings and misses. The separation in speed and her ability to locate it in key counts makes it especially effective as a strikeout pitch. Tweed carries herself like a veteran in the circle. As a USA All-American and honors student, she brings both athletic ability and a strong mental approach to the game. Her command, pitchability, and composure make her a name to watch as she continues to develop.

as one of the most fearless 2030s in the circle, and she has more than earned that distinction. A name on the rise for 5A Division 2 Lucy Beckham, she made 17 appearances as a seventh grader for the Bengals and recorded 54 strikeouts. Tweed places plenty of emphasis on the speed of her pitches and reached a personal-best 63 miles per hour. At one point during the Palmetto Fall League, she threw six innings while only allowing three walks to 12 strikeouts. While her work in the circle is her bread and butter, Tweed is also working to become a force to be reckoned with at the plate as well.

Ella Tweed has built a reputation for rising to the challenge on the biggest stages. At the Alliance Fastpitch Invitational Championship Series in Indiana, she logged nine strong innings, striking out 11, while holding opponents to a .175 batting average and posting a 1.92 ERA. Her ability to limit hard contact and attack hitters head-on shows the poise and fearlessness that set her apart among her peers. That same competitive fire carried over to the USA 12U All-American Games, where she helped her team finish pool play in first place. Tweed threw a complete game with five strikeouts, just four hits allowed, and zero earned runs, while showing her dedication to growth in the circle. After consistently sitting at 60 to 61 mph earlier in the summer, she broke through with a new high of 63 mph. That jump in velocity is a reflection of her tireless work ethic and drive to improve. With her combination of command, velocity, and composure, Tweed is firmly cementing herself as one of the most fearless 2030 arms to watch.
