Stephens displayed an ability to prevent would-be passed balls from skipping to the backstop, as she only allowed three during that weekend. She also displayed advanced skills at the dish, as evidenced by the .533 average she posted. Her strong right arm has also allowed her to catch many would-be base-stealers. The speed she can display on the bases can also make her likely to deliver inside-the-park home runs by taking advantage of defensive miscues. Stephens throws with her right hand, but bats with her left.

Ryleigh Breshears is a multi-sport athlete who also competes in volleyball to go alongside what she gets accomplished on the softball diamond. She blends together talent with a high softball IQ. In addition to playing in the outfield, she also plays first base, which is one of the most defensive-centric positions in a team's lineup of nine. Breshears manages to quickly react to batted balls, whether they are hit in her direction or not. She also understands the importance of positioning herself on the first base bag on any batted ball. We at Prep Softball spotlighted her a few months ago as a 2032 prospect who is building recruiting momentum.

Kanicey Seals is a rising prospect who currently wears the Stars Corbin 12U uniform during the travel ball season. In addition to playing defensively as a catcher, Seals is also a utility player. On offense, she knows how to get the right amount of contact on the ball. In a recent contest against Dixie Diamonds 12U, during which Stars Corbin 12U run-ruled their competition by a final score of 11-1, Seals aided her squad's cause with a double, a single, two RBIs, and a run scored.

The sun is shining brightly on this rising Sunshine State prospect. Defensively, MJ Weinrich can give a team solid defense as a utility player or in the middle of the infield. Middle infielders almost always have to get in position for double plays, and Weinrich centers much of her defensive mechanics around that reality. Infielders also have to be unafraid of getting their uniforms dirty, and Weinrich is willing to dive in the dirt to complete a defensive play. Weinrich gets that while offense can draw the lion's share of headlines, it is defense that can go a long way in consistently getting into the win column.

Klancee Park proudly sports the uniform of Texas Un1ty 2013 for her travel schedule. The previous weekend, she and her teammates took part in the Triple Crown Texas State Championships. Park can play at a variety of spots defensively, including at first base, in the outfield, and as a pitcher. She is a southpaw both at the plate and in the circle. Park is placing a lot of emphasis on her drop ball and her changeup. We at Prep Softball spotlighted Park a few months ago as a middle school standout with the potential to become a future star. Park also had a chance to wear the NTX Blaze 2K13 Gold Futures uniform as a guest player a few months ago.

When examining younger players in the middle school ranks, one has to expect that their skills will not be as fully developed as those who are advanced in their high school careers. In states where seventh- and eighth-graders can join high school teams, those advanced skills could even earn them varsity roster spots.
