Playing for the Roswell Coyotes as an eighth grader, she had a .311 batting average in 45 at-bats with 14 hits, 10 RBIs, one double, and a .404 on-base percentage. When she finds a pitch she likes, she often makes solid contact with it and her swings tend to be loud. Her defense is just as impressive. As a shortstop, she has impressive range, is not afraid to get her uniform dirty, and has the speed to also play in the outfield. She has already shown she can play well at a high level, and will only get better in all facets of the game as time goes on.

Mila Gonzales has made a habit of being fearless at the plate, no matter who she's facing. This year alone, she has four home runs against 16U and 18U travel ball teams, including a grand slam against NM Rogue 16U. Her courage travels to the circle as well. In a tight game against NM Regulators 18U, she recorded a crucial out with two runners on to maintain a one-run lead. She has tremendous power, especially on her pull side. She can be relied upon to field her position well, whether it's in the circle or the infield. Her determination and confidence are evident in the way she plays, and she will be one to watch in the spring.

Plenty of players tend to chase Bella Maldonado's rise ball, but her changeup is deadly. The off-speed pitch is a knee-buckler, and all hitters can do is watch it go by. Her curveball is also one of the best weapons in her arsenal. She is proficient at racking up the strikeouts, can change speeds with ease to confuse hitters, limits her walks, and induces weak contact. She is just as skilled when it comes to hitting. The Edgewood product generates plenty of power with a simple swing and can take the ball with authority to the opposite field. The Moriarty Pintos enter this season coming off their highest win total in 10 years, and Maldonado will fit right in.

The best thing about Yazmin Lopez's game is that she can help her team both in the circle and at the plate. With the bat, she has serious power to all fields and is a long-ball threat the moment she steps up to face the pitcher. A quick turn of the hip and an extension of the arms and the ball soars. She can also motor around the bases, and will take the extra base if the fielder isn't alert. In the circle, she has an excellent curveball, and fields her position well. She is alert to where baserunners are, and can be depended on to make the right play. Along with her teammate Mila Gonzales, the Rio Rancho Rams are set to have a hard-hitting lineup this spring.

It would be wise not to run on Kylie Coca, as she has an impressive pop time and a cannon of an arm behind the dish. She is also adept at blocking balls in the dirt, which, other than the double play, is a pitcher's best friend. Speaking of turning two, Coca can also hold down third base and shortstop, and has already shown the ability to quickly throw around the horn. Similar to her future Rio Rancho teammates, she also has power to all fields, is fleet-footed on the bases, and is a threat to hit the long ball. Catchers are often the glue that holds a team together, and Coca will be a valuable new addition for the Rams this spring.

The Land of Enchantment is known for its beauty and balmy temperatures in the spring and summer. However, in addition to the thermometer, the bats will also be heating up in the coming months. As spring softball finally arrives, there are plenty of athletes ready to make their names known and their bats and gloves heard in New Mexico.
