About Mckayla

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I would describe my gameplay style as a High-Intent Power Pitcher. I don't just "throw" the ball; I attack the zone with a focus on explosive mechanics and raw velocity. Also a 5 tool athlete. I can play anywhere on the field needed, hit for contact or power, and am a savage base runner who doesn’t mind getting dirty!

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I never shy away from the hard stuff. I am a highly competitive athlete who uses data and feedback to constantly refine my game. My background in wrestling has given me a unique level of grit and mental toughness, allowing me to stay calm and aggressive in high-pressure situations. I am relentlessly focused on my goal of pitching at the D1 level and am willing to put in the consistent work needed.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am a State Champion wrestler in Pennsylvania; which is known as one of the best wrestling states in the nation with the toughest competition. I have attended states for wrestling the last 4 years in a row, placing in the last 3 years. Wrestling requires grit, resilience, and a strong mental mindset. I use the same mentality on the mat that I use in the circle.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I am a team player. I am never looking for how to win myself, but what can I do to ensure my team wins. Whether that is on the mound, at bat, playing infield or outfield, or cheering my team on from the bench. I go wherever my team needs me, and try to play that position best that I can. I am a true leader. I have been the youngest on my team since 8, but still viewed as a leader.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I have faced discrimination, unfairness by coaches, and bullying by teammates. In the face of adversity, I try to focus on my “job” which is to play softball and ignore any distractions. If someone tries to hold me back I use that as motivation to prove them wrong. My tough mental mindset is what sets me apart from most players my age.

What type of college are you looking for?

My goal is to attend a high-level D1 university, specifically in the South, where I can compete at the highest level of softball. Coming from a rigorous academic environment at Episcopal Academy, I am looking for a college that will challenge me both in the classroom and on the field. I thrive in competitive, high-pressure environments and am looking for a program that mirrors this.

McKayla Steele continues to stand out as one of the more competitive and versatile two-way players in the 2031 class. A USA All-American 2026 selection, she brings a strong athletic foundation and a relentless approach to improving her game. In the circle, Steele is developing into a well-rounded pitcher with a four-pitch mix that includes a fastball, changeup, screw, and rise ball. Her willingness to expand her arsenal at a young age shows a high level of feel and understanding of how to attack hitters. She is consistently putting in the work to refine each pitch, and that growth is beginning to translate into results. Over Easter weekend, Steele delivered a dominant performance, throwing a no-hitter, while also making a major impact offensively by going 4-for-7 at the plate. That ability to contribute in multiple ways highlights her value as a true two-way player. Steele also recently reached a personal best of 57 mph, which is another indicator of her steady progress and commitment to development.
