About Maia

What's your biggest strength as a player, and how does it show up in games?

My biggest strength is my competitiveness. I stay focused, respond well under pressure, and always look for ways to help my team. Even when a game gets difficult, I keep a positive attitude and compete until the final out.

What are you working to improve right now?

I’m working to become a more consistent and complete player. I’m focused on improving the small details of my game, getting stronger, and becoming more confident in pressure situations.

What are you looking for in a college program?

I’m looking for a competitive program with a strong team culture, supportive coaches, and teammates who push one another to improve. I also want a school where I can succeed academically and feel at home on campus.

Outside of your sport, what should coaches know about you?

I’m hardworking, dependable, and close with my family. I take my academics seriously and try to be a positive teammate and friend. I’m also coachable and willing to put in the work needed to reach my goals.

What do you want to study, and what career interests you?

I want to study animal science or a related field and eventually become a veterinarian. I’ve always loved animals, and I’m interested in a career where I can care for them, solve problems, and make a positive difference in their lives.

Whether she is representing Milton in the high school realm or Unity on the travel circuit, Maia Jakovenko delivers at the plate. After a fall season during which she hit .617, Jakovenko added five home runs in the spring season, hitting .349 against club-level competition. Jakovenko can hit home runs in bunches, like when she hit four in her first day of spring travel ball this season. Behind the dish, Jakovenko is an important player to have on your side when a pitcher is trying to get out of a jam or close out a game.
