About Jillian

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I'm a spin / movement pitcher that can locate the ball all over the zone. My pitching coach, Carla Buik, likes to call me a junk ball pitcher. I throw a variety of pitches including fast, change, curve, rise, drop, screw, and offspeed curve. I can play just about anywhere on the field defensively outside of C & SS. I have spent the most time playing 1B,2B, and OF. But I've played 3B also.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I make friends easily. People sometimes think I'm quiet at first until they get to know me and realize that I'm very playful and always trying to lift everyone's spirits. I work hard and I don't complain. Being a pitcher with additional responsibilities outside of practice and a multi-sport athlete while maintaining my #1 class rank has taught me real work ethic.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I'm the president of the Huffman State of Mind Club. I'm the Class of 2028 Student Council Secretary. I'm a member of HOSA. I was a member of NJHS and FFA in middle school. I've received multiple academic awards over the years for my grades and work in the classroom.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I've learned to keep a positive attitude in the hardest situations. I know that true teamwork is supporting your teammates and showing empathy for them when they struggle. I volunteer regularly through the Huffman State of Mind club with donation drives for food banks and clothing. I have also spent time volunteering in the softball world helping with camps and challenger league events.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Due to a medical risk from COVID to some of my family members I didn't play during 2020 or 2021. This was my entire 10U playing time. When I came back to softball I hit the ground running because I wanted to pitch and had only a few lessons before COVID hit. Through a lot of reps and effort I've worked my way into the starting pitching rotation for the last 2 years.

What type of college are you looking for?

I plan on becoming a psychiatrist. I have a special needs brother with Autism and my mother is a LPC. I want to dedicate my life to helping people with their mental health. I'm looking a smaller school with high academics but I'm open to any opportunity. The school must have a pre-med / biological science program that will prepare me for medical school.
