Bailey Bateman slashed .397/.471/.548 as a freshman for her high school team, always running hard out of the batter’s box and routinely driving the ball deep into the outfield. Her lone home run of the season was a walk-off grand slam on a full count with two outs in the seventh, giving her team its first regional title in 39 years. Bateman has power to both gaps and will take an extra base or two when the defense misplays the ball. Defensively, she vacuums up anything in her direction at shortstop and second, staying with tricky hops and snagging pop-ups and line drives with ease.
