2031 Players Who Bring A Competitive Edge Every Game

College coaches are always looking for players who bring a competitive edge to the field. Whether it's speed in the outfield or the ability to make contact in crucial situations, a win or loss can come down to one player who is willing to go the extra mile.   Below, Prep Softball highlights five players from the high school graduating class of 2031 who bring a competitive edge to every game.    Not only can Hailey Sochovka rack up the strikeouts, but she can also launch the ball out of the yard. In a recent in-state rivalry game against Fitchburg, the Massachusetts native smashed two home runs in back-to-back at-bats for the Chocksett Eagles, and struck out 14 batters over five innings in a masterful no-hitter. In fact, this was not the first time she's mystified the hitters from Fitchburg. Earlier this spring, she struck out six batters over two innings and allowed only one hit to pick up the win in the circle. With the bat, she has power to all fields, and is comfortable with plenty of poise in the batter's box. In the circle, her changeup dazzles with movement, and she also has a solid fastball and screwball.     In Amelia Sharp you'll find an accomplished hitter and fielder. Behind the plate, she moves quietly and is an excellent pitch-framer. She also can be placed anywhere on the infield, and is alert on tag plays and adept at foot placement. In the era of obstruction calls, it is clear that she has put in the work to successfully navigate that minefield. She also has a strong and accurate arm to nab base-stealers. At the plate, she has an impressive bat-to-ball approach, and when she makes contact, it tends to be loud. She is an invaluable teammate to have not only because of her athletic skills, but also because of her high softball IQ.     There are a lot of components to pitching: velocity, whip, launch, spin, arm, and shoulder position, just to name a few. Avery Meyers focuses on all of those in her pitching drills, and the results speak for themselves on the field. In the fall of 2025, she had 19 strikeouts and only five earned runs combined over 25.2 innings pitched. Additionally, she had a .333 batting average at the plate in those two tournaments. Her rise ball has a good giddy-up to it, and she has excellent control on her drop ball. She is a determined athlete who brings skills in all facets of the game to the table.     Fresh off a memorable 2025 fall season in which she recorded a whopping 234 strikeouts, Reese Wooten has continued her mastery in the circle this year. At the USFA March Madness tournament, she struck out 20 batters over eight innings pitched, and allowed only one hit. Later in March, at the Diamond Divas Battle tournament, she racked up 16 strikeouts over seven innings pitched. To top it off, in the month of April alone, she had 31 strikeouts, and she recorded her 300th career strikeout after only 12 months of pitching. Not only does the tall right-hander have electric stuff, but she also has the ability to carry a team.     You will not find a more prepared player than Alaina Munoz. From hitting drills to conditioning workouts to fielding drills with tennis balls, she embraces the grind of the game. And all of that daily work she puts in is paying off with her performance on the field. She is confident in the batter's box, doesn't try to do too much, and is focused on making contact at the plate. She swings with authority, but is also under control. In the field, she is alert, quick to the ball, and accurate with her throws. She is a versatile defender, and is a dependable teammate.
