Gia Gambino Gia Gambino C/SS Odessa | 2030 DE is coming off an excellent fall season, batting .400 with a .909 OPS and 26 runs batted in. Eleven of those RBI came at the Nightmare Fastpitch Oktoberfest Showcase. She has the strength to drive the ball to the fence for opposite-field extra-base hits, and she stays with pitches down in the zone and on the outer half of the plate, lining sharp hits up the middle. Gambino is a clutch performer who does not let the moment get the best of her when she comes to bat with runners in scoring position, coming through in key situations to help her team win. She blocks balls in the dirt well from behind the plate, and even when she does not do so completely cleanly, she still keeps the ball in front of her and can recover in time to make a strong throw to catch a runner trying to advance. As a shortstop, Gambino will range deep into the hole to make backhanded plays, then use her arm to get the out at first. Also a field hockey standout, Gambino was her middle school team’s MVP last fall.
