As a catcher, Rhiannon Crosby knows this better than anyone, and puts in the practice to perfect her technique. She also works on her arm strength and hitting, and is always available if one of her pitchers needs a bullpen session. The results on the field speak for themselves. At the Hoosier Fall Brawl in September, she hit for a .429 batting average and had a .571 on-base percentage. She has a powerful, upper-cut swing, is comfortable in the box, and fields her position well behind the plate. Over the seven-game stretch, the Lafayette, Ind. product had a .643 batting average, and only gave up one earned run over seven innings. Earlier in the summer, she gave up only one hit and no runs over four innings pitched at the PGF Midwest Sparkler. When she is not on the softball field, she hits the batting cages to work on her swing or practices numerous pitching drills from long toss to practicing in the bullpen. She has excellent location on her pitches and good movement on both her rise and drop. Her swing is level, and she is clearly focused on making contact and driving the ball. The right-hander fanned 16 batters over nine innings pitched and allowed only two walks for Indiana Magic Gold. She has a fastball, curve ball, rise ball, and a nasty changeup in her arsenal. She can locate her pitches on either side of the plate and has superb control. When she's not in the circle, she is either working on improving her spin rate or helping train younger softball players. A multi-sport athlete, she also plays volleyball, has a 4.0 GPA, and is a supportive teammate. The Crown Point, Ind. native blasted four doubles and one triple for a .750 slugging percentage on the weekend. She is a power threat at the plate, maintains composure in the batter's box, and also brings speed to the base paths. Behind the plate, she has a strong arm and is capable of throwing out baserunners with accuracy. She also has a positive mindset, and has the ability to work hard through adversity, which plays a big role in a sport such as softball. Her strength and agility come into play on the softball field, especially defensively. She is a highlight reel at third base with a cannon of an arm, the speed to chase down and field slow rollers, and the underrated ability to make quick decisions with multiple runners on base. She also has the versatility to play other positions as well. At the plate, she has power to all fields, and can leg out a double or triple with ease.
