ReNaa “Nae Nae” Hicks is not shy about pumping up her teammates. The Texas native is always ready to provide energy for any situation.

“I’m very loud. I’m always showing my people. I’m that hype man, for real,” Hicks said. “I’m just everywhere. I’m hyper, and I’m very big on bringing people up and making people happy.”

Hicks didn’t inherit her outgoing personality from her family. The 2027 recruit, who plays for Impact Caymol National Soliz 16U, stands out in her household.

“My parents, they’re very chill. They’re off in the corner somewhere, and I’ve always been out in front. They’re like, ‘Oh, my daughter did not get that from me at all,’” Hicks said. “They just know I’m that type of girl and I am going to stand out anywhere I go because of that.”

Hicks started playing softball when she was five after seeing the sport on television. She gained motivation from watching college players and wanted to see if she could excel on the field herself. After a few years, she had to choose between playing softball and basketball. Aside from being 5-foot-1, Hicks felt more connected to softball.

“I was like, softball is made for me. It’s a sport that I really love,” she said. “My dad wasn’t sure at first. He wanted me to play basketball. But the more he saw me play, the more he thought, ‘‘Maybe this is for you, because it’s not made for size or anything.’ He really believed in me.”

The family moved closer to the Dallas area to give Hicks a chance to face better competition. Hicks began at third base but has since moved to the middle infield. She can also play center field.

“My speed and my arm are my strengths,” Hicks said. “I have a really good arm for my size. Everybody says that. I’m a little short and I’m fast because I’m a slapper. But I have a really strong arm for my size.”

Hicks has always been an animal lover and wants to become a veterinarian one day. She grew up riding horses and attending rodeos with her family. She has a horse named Sparkle, and her dad’s horse is named Brandy. Her favorite TV show is The Incredible Dr. Pol, a reality series on Nat Geo Wild that follows Dutch-American veterinarian Jan Pol, his family, and his employees.

“I am always around animals. I just love animals,” Hicks said. “If you see me anywhere, I’m usually with animals. I’m literally with my horse. I’m with my dog. I’m playing around outside. I’m an active person.”

Like the girls she grew up watching that inspired her to first pick up a bat and glove, Hicks hopes to one day play college softball while also pursuing a career in veterinary medicine.

“No doubt, I just want to make a name for myself,” Hicks said. “I want to be that person to be looked at, and I really do want to go to college for my academic career and just to play softball.”
