Several 2029 outfielders around the country made plenty of tough plays throughout the summer travel ball season. They covered ground from gap to gap, took good routes to the ball, and turned potential extra-base hits into outs. Speed certainly helped, but their reads off the bat and ability to get a good jump made just as much of a difference.

Below, Prep Softball takes a look at five 2029 outfielders who seemed to track down just about everything this summer.

Speed is a big part of Kaelyn Utech's game, but she can do more than just run. The 2029 outfielder and slapper finished the season hitting .500 with a .547 OBP and 1.176 OPS, totaling 62 singles, 10 doubles, five triples, and 45 RBIs. At the plate, she can play the short game, slap through the defense, or swing away, depending on the situation. In the outfield, Utech uses her speed to close on balls in the gaps and take away hits. Utech showed all season that she can beat teams in more ways than one.

Elaina Cloud doesn't let many balls drop when she's leading the outfield for Arizona Storm Skaggs. The 2029 outfielder takes strong angles and covers plenty of ground, allowing her to track down balls and make tough outs. She isn't afraid to leave her feet either, diving and putting her body on the line to finish a play. Cloud also has the arm to throw runners out, which is clutch in tight situations. At the plate, she's come through with clutch hits in key spots throughout the summer. Cloud is an outfielder you want to continue keeping an eye on as she enters the fall season.

Lindsey Desjarlais covers a lot of ground in the outfield for Athletics Gold Tamborra/Olson. The 2029 outfielder uses her speed to track down balls in the gaps and has a strong arm as well. Desjarlais' speed carries over to the bases, where she can put pressure on a defense. She has hit over .400 throughout the summer, including several tournaments over .500, and can beat teams from the left side in various ways, whether she's slapping, hitting for average, or driving the ball out of the park. Her mix of speed, power, and athleticism makes her a tough matchup on both sides of the ball.

Emma Townsend covers plenty of ground in the outfield for Athletics Gold Tamborra/Olson 2029/2030. The 2029 outfielder gets good reads off the bat and has the speed to track down balls in the gaps and take away hits. She can also come up with a big at-bat, recording 20 hits, six doubles, two triples, and 14 RBIs, which are just a few of the solid numbers she has put together in 2026 to date. Townsend brings that same consistency to the outfield, where she can cover ground and make tough plays. Her range makes it hard for balls to find the grass when she's out there. And her leadership skills in center field really stand out, as she proves herself time and time again.

Dalyssia Pina can cover some serious ground in the outfield. One of the fastest players in the 2029 class, Pina has the range to chase down balls from gap to gap and get to plenty that look like they're going to fall. She also has a strong arm and can throw runners out when they get aggressive trying to take an extra base. At the plate, Pina brings home run power to go with her speed, hitting several balls out during her time in Colorado this summer. Pina can take away hits in the outfield and create damage with her bat, which are two areas that continue to make her valuable to her team.

They covered ground from gap to gap, took good routes to the ball, and turned potential extra-base hits into outs.
