And these five athletes below have shown they want to be in the middle of the action, whether it's making a play on defense, coming through with a big hit, or finding another way to help their team win.   Below, meet five youth softball players who have built a reputation for coming through in the biggest moments of a game.    Jessyca Vargas has been at the center of some of Colorado Bombers 16 Gold's biggest wins this season. The 2028 right-hander pitched her team to the championship game at the 2026 Triple Crown Sparkler before helping lead the Bombers to a title at the Alliance Fastpitch Southwest Championship. During that tournament, she also recorded her 200th strikeout of the season. Vargas has been pitching at the varsity level since her freshman year and mixes a 62 mph fastball with a 47 mph off-speed pitch that keeps hitters off balance. As the games have gotten bigger, the Bombers have continued to trust Jessyca Vargas in the circle, and she has rewarded that confidence.     Katie McBryde has continued to improve during her five years with LLG, turning herself into one of the lineup's most dependable hitters. The 2027 USC Upstate commit is batting .471 with a .575 on-base percentage, eight home runs, 38 RBIs, and 20 walks in 113 plate appearances. McBryde makes consistent hard contact, works the count, and still stays disciplined despite her aggressive approach at the plate. When LLG has needed a big hit, Katie McBryde has been one of the hitters they can count on. Whether her team needs a baserunner or a big swing, Katie McBryde has consistently found ways to produce.     Carlie Graber is the type of infielder who never backs down from a big play. The 2029 middle infielder plays with a relentless, scrappy style, as she is willing to leave her feet and get dirty to make an out. At the plate, she battles through tough at-bats, consistently finding the barrel and refusing to give pitchers easy outs. As a freshman at Eastmark High School, Graber led the varsity team with 36 hits, including two home runs, two triples, and six doubles while striking out just twice all season. She has carried that production into the summer with two more home runs for Storm Skaggs and several highlight-reel diving plays in the infield.     Harper Sugg has been one of the players Caroline Elite Fusseti 16U has leaned on in big games. The 2028 standout followed an impressive freshman season with an even better sophomore campaign, hitting .534 with a .568 on-base percentage, 1.432 OPS, 47 RBIs, and just two strikeouts in 88 at-bats. She combines power with exceptional bat control and consistently puts together quality at-bats against top competition. Harper Sugg has also backed up her offensive production with strong defense and the kind of consistency coaches value.     Jenica Matos has been the pitcher Cheshire High School has trusted in its biggest games throughout her career. The 2026 St. John's commit wrapped up her senior season with a perfect 27-0 record, 405 strikeouts in 179 innings, and a 0.08 ERA while helping lead the Rams to another state championship. A four-year varsity pitcher and three-year starter, Matos finished her high school career with 1,075 strikeouts and established herself as one of Connecticut's top arms. It is this kind of track record that made Matos the obvious choice whenever Cheshire or the Empire State Huskies needed a big performance.
