She can operate defensively behind the plate as a catcher or at third base. Hollis once received a USA Softball High Performance Program invite. Back in February, BSC Bengals 14U-K earned a 4-3 win over AM Mercado 2012 14U. The difference? A three-run home run in the top of the third off Hollis' bat to the deepest part of the park. Hollis also had an opportunity to participate in the Mary Nutter Classic, where she was named the Exit Velocity Winner.

Winthrop Harbor is on the state line shared by Illinois and Wisconsin and it is where Ryann Smith is continuing to butter her softball bread. Defensively, Smith can give a team innings at either second base or in the outfield. Last month, Smith and her Wisconsin Lightning 12U team participated in the Spring Fever Tournament near Milwaukee. Smith put together a .714 average with a pair of singles, a pair of doubles, and a triple. She also had a stellar showing at the 12U Finesse Fling. Her team finished 6-1 (including winning the last four games) and claimed the championship. Smith batted .500 and also had an on-base percentage of .579.

Lynnley Hajec can play in the outfield defensively but it is her work in the circle that earns her the lion's share of attention. She recently made the team at 4A Harris County as an eighth-grader. Last season's Tigers finished with a 32-6 record and those winning ways should continue with Hajec sporting Harris County black and gold. Late last month, her Bombers 2031 12U team earned a 7-2 win over AP Elite Martinelli 14U. Hajec tossed five innings of three-hit ball while striking out five. Another of Hajec's big games occurred in mid-April when she delivered a home run to help her team to a 5-3 win over GA Impact 2K31 Johnson.

Kaytie Jones is a right-handed pitcher who can bat from the left side. She places lots of emphasis on exit velocity when she is at the plate and recently clocked a new personal-best of 72 miles per hour in the batter's box. Much of her spring travel slate has been spent playing up in class against 14U competition. Jones helped her Tampa Mustangs team to a championship at the PGF Super Select event. She batted leadoff mostly, and had a .556 average and an on-base percentage of .600. Jones also played stellar defense in left field. She also helped her team to a top-four finish at another PGF event, the Belt Wars, with a .540 average at the plate and another on-base percentage of .600 plus a dozen hits.

Kaitlyn Gutzmer is a multi-sport athlete who also plays basketball in addition to what she gets accomplished on the softball diamond. Last month, her Wichita Stars Lassley 14U squad finished as the runners-up at the Top Gun Rangers tournament. Gutzmer was responsible for one of the event's big hits. Her team was tied 7-7 with Select Fastpitch Forsythe 12U in the bottom of the fifth when she reached base on an error, allowing the runner from third to score. Wichita Stars Lassley 14U won by a final of 8-7. Gutzmer also helped her Wichita Stars team to a 4-2 weekend in early May at the Top Gun Heartland Invite. She batted .733 with nine RBIs plus eight stolen bases. She also put forth stellar work behind the plate as a catcher with her ability to throw out would-be base-stealers.

For the class of 2031, their seventh-grade years are now in the books, and they are currently looking ahead to what will happen next as eighth-graders.
