Below, Prep Softball highlights seven pitchers from the high school class of 2031 who set the tone early in games.    Kayla Gardner wasted no time making an impact at the PGF Georgia Oaks tournament, helping lead her team to an undefeated championship run while proving she can control the pace of games from the circle and at the plate. The 2031 pitcher showed poise beyond her years, finishing the event with a 2-0 record, 4 strikeouts, and a 2.25 ERA across 8 innings of work. Gardner consistently attacked hitters early in counts and limited damage when opponents threatened, giving her team stability every time she stepped into the circle. What makes Gardner especially intriguing is her ability to influence the game in multiple ways. Hitting in the leadoff spot, she posted an impressive .524 batting average and consistently sparked offensive momentum. Her athleticism also extends beyond softball, as she is a volleyball player as well. Gardner's combination of composure, versatility, and ability to contribute on both sides of the ball makes her one of the early tone-setters to watch in the 2031 class.     Mackenzie Jones continues to establish herself as one of the most polished young arms in the 2031 class with a mix of velocity, movement, and pitchability that is rare for her age. Sitting at 55 mph, Jones keeps hitters uncomfortable with three legitimate pitches and one of the better changeups in the class. Her ability to create movement while maintaining command allows her to dictate at-bats early and consistently keep opposing lineups off balance. Jones recently helped lead her team to an undefeated championship run at the PGF Swing Into Spring Tournament, once again proving she thrives in competitive environments. She also showed that her impact extends beyond the circle after recently hitting her first over-the-fence home run, adding another layer to her growing all-around game. Between her advanced pitching arsenal, confidence in big moments, and developing power at the plate, Jones is quickly becoming a pitcher who opponents know they will have to prepare for.     Esther Young continues to separate herself as one of the most complete competitors in the 2031 class with the way she impacts games both physically and mentally. A dedicated worker in the weight room, Young has made noticeable strides in her strength and overall presence on the field, and that development showed throughout the AZ Select Bolts Invite. She helped lead her team to a co-championship finish while dominating offensively, posting a .529 batting average with three home runs during the event. Young was equally effective in the circle, recording nine strikeouts across two outings and consistently giving her team quality innings in big moments. Her ability to contribute in multiple facets of the game makes her a difficult matchup for opponents and a reliable tone-setter from the first pitch. Off the field, Young also carries a 4.0 GPA, reflecting the same discipline and consistency in the classroom that she brings to competition.     Julia Putko is the type of athlete who can completely shift the momentum of a game in multiple ways. Whether she is in the circle, at third base, or stepping into the batter's box, the 2031 standout consistently finds ways to impact her team. Putko's offensive presence immediately stands out, as she makes hitting home runs look effortless with a powerful swing and the ability to drive the ball to all parts of the field. Her talent earned national attention after she was selected as a top performer in the 13U division at the HPP National Selection Event in Vero Beach, which speaks to both her consistency and upside against elite competition. In the circle, Putko pairs solid velocity with effective movement, allowing her to challenge hitters while keeping them uncomfortable throughout games. Her versatility, athleticism, and ability to perform under pressure continue to make her one of the more exciting young players to follow in the 2031 class.     Anderson Pearson continues to challenge herself against high-level competition, regularly playing in 16U and 18U divisions to accelerate her development and sharpen her game. That willingness to compete against older athletes has helped shape a pitcher who already displays advanced command and movement well beyond her years. Pearson attacks hitters with confidence, works quickly, and never backs down from big moments in the circle. What stands out most is her competitive mentality. Pearson is not afraid to go right at hitters, trusting her ability to locate pitches and force uncomfortable at-bats. Her changeup is already a true weapon and plays extremely well off her other pitches, keeping hitters guessing throughout games. She also brings major value offensively as a legitimate two-way threat with a strong bat that can impact the middle of a lineup. Pearson's maturity, toughness, and all-around skill set make her one of the more battle-tested young players in the 2031 class.     Callia Patterson spent the spring competing up in the 14U division and consistently proved she belongs competing against older competition. This 2031 pitcher put together an impressive body of work in the circle, totaling 87 innings with 148 strikeouts, a 1.276 WHIP, a 1.862 ERA, and a .223 batting average against. Her ability to miss bats while maintaining her composure deep into games made her one of the most reliable arms throughout the spring season. Patterson's impact did not stop in the circle. Offensively, she hit .407 with a 1.222 OPS and added two home runs, continuing to show she is a true two-way threat who is capable of changing games on both sides of the ball. What separates Patterson even further is how she responds in big moments. She thrives in high-pressure situations and consistently looks comfortable when the game is on the line, which is a trait that cannot be taught and one that makes her a tone-setter every time she takes the field.     Taylor Kitterman has spent much of her playing days competing against older hitters, and that experience has helped shape her into a composed and confident presence in the circle. Working in the 57-60 mph range, Kitterman combines velocity with a sharp curveball that allows her to keep hitters off balance and consistently work ahead in counts. Her ability to adjust against advanced competition has accelerated her development and given her a mature approach well beyond her age. At the Aggieland Classic, Kitterman helped lead her team into the gold bracket while recording 14 strikeouts against quality competition. She also showed off her athleticism with an incredible diving catch behind the circle that energized her team and highlighted her ability to impact the game outside of just pitching. Kitterman's competitiveness, experience against older competition, and ability to rise to big moments continue to make her one of the more intriguing arms in the 2031 class.
