Below, Prep Softball highlights five prospects from the high school graduating class of 2028 who play with relentless effort.    Kaia Simonson, of Farmington, MN, is blossoming as a dynamic and flexible softball player with a strong all-around game. Known for her athleticism and instincts, she impacts both sides of the ball, showing consistency at the plate and reliability on the field. Simonson plays with confidence and energy, bringing a competitive edge that elevates her team in key moments. Her growing résumé includes travel ball experience against high-level competition, where she continues to refine her skills and build exposure. As she develops physically and technically, Simonson is positioning herself as a promising name to follow in her class.     Callista Walls, of Evansville, IN, is emerging as a steady and versatile player with a well-rounded game. Competing against strong travel ball competition, she continues to develop both defensively and offensively while showing consistency and coachability at a high level. Walls is capable of handling multiple defensive positions, giving her team flexibility and reliability on the field. Recently, she delivered a standout performance, going 4-for-4 with a triple, double, single, and a walk-off single, highlighting her ability to produce for her team in key moments. At the plate, she shows a disciplined approach with growing gap-to-gap strength and confidence.     Kierra Wunderlich, of Appleton, WI, is quickly gaining attention for her poised, effortless style of play in the circle. A right-handed pitcher, she combines smooth mechanics with a calm presence that belies her age, allowing her to command games without appearing rushed or overworked. Her résumé already includes national-level travel experience and multiple USSSA All-American honors, signaling consistent performance against elite competition. Coaches note her repeatable delivery and developing pitch arsenal as key strengths. As she continues to refine her game, Wunderlich's blend of composure, skill, and projection makes her a name to watch closely in her class.     Avelese Cruz, of Chicago, IL, had a dominant preseason showing in the 2026 campaign, establishing herself as a high-impact offensive threat. She is batting an impressive .466 with a .530 on-base percentage, showcasing elite consistency at the plate. Her power production stands out with a 1.188 OPS and .658 slugging percentage, reflecting both gap power and extra-base ability. Cruz has already collected 34 hits and driven in 21 runs, demonstrating both contact skills and run production for her team in crucial situations. Her combination of on-base ability, power, and consistency makes her a dangerous and reliable presence in the lineup for her squad.     Peyton Berry, from Klein Oak High School in Texas, is an emerging impact player with advanced production for her age. As a freshman, she posted a .424 batting average over 29 varsity games, collecting 42 hits, 34 runs scored, and consistent on-base production while serving as a table-setter in the lineup for her team. A switch-hitter with speed and defensive versatility, Berry splits time between shortstop and center field, showcasing range, instincts, and athleticism in key situations.
