Five 2029 Two-Way Talents Standing Out This Season

With two-way skills still important on college softball rosters, those players who excel both at pitching and hitting become more coveted in the recruiting process. In the 2029 class, players are starting to establish their high school careers and show off their talent.   Below, Prep Softball highlights five outstanding two-way players from the high school class of 2029 who are putting on a show this spring.    Part of the way through her first high school season, Brooklynn Fitzsimmons is quickly establishing herself as a threat both ways. Fitzsimmons has been called on to pitch nine times this season and sports a 5-2 record and 2.40 ERA thus far, striking out 88 batters in the process. At the plate, she is hitting .600 with a home run and 15 runs batted in across 40 plate appearances. The two-way star visited Auburn for camp in December after a successful season with Unity Bryan Jones. Fitzsimmons is also a volleyball player who was on the Sneads squad for the fall season.     [player_tooltip player_id='151743' first='Aubrey' last='Porterfield'] is a name to watch in the 2029 class as she continues to develop. Across her first 15 high school games, Porterfield bats at a .444 clip with two home runs and 10 driven in. Adding to her skill at the plate, she has often been called upon to enter the circle, recording two wins over the start of her freshman year. Her two-way skills were best on display against Jefferson when she hit a home run and earned a complete-game pitching win. The Bombers Gold player attended camp at East Texas A&M during her club campaign.     Jalayah Slaughter's performance going both ways has been instrumental to Parkview Baptist's season. In her first 20 varsity games of the season for the district champions, Slaughter is hitting .339 with two homers and 30 RBI. Her performance in the circle has been even more impressive as she has started 6-0 with a 0.43 ERA. The Parkview Baptist star's 94 strikeouts stand against just 10 walks, and she has not allowed an extra-base hit in her first 49.1 innings of work. Slaughter was <a href="https://prepsoftball.com/2025/12/04/top-2029-prospects-to-watch-in-louisiana/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">featured as a prospect to watch</a> back in December and has delivered on that potential during her school season.     [player_tooltip player_id='146441' first='Anna' last='Sophia Heffington']'s impact has been felt with both Austin LASA and the Lonestar Softball Club Showcase this spring. Heffington is a .404 hitter across her first 18 games, accounting for six extra-base hits and 10 runs plated. Her 2.71 ERA against formidable competition stands across 44.1 innings pitched, during which she has struck out 73 opponents. The two-way standout has also hit two home runs in club ball this spring. Heffington attended Bucknell camp during the offseason.     London Lambert's performance for Hahnville has continued her upward trajectory after a great club ball season. In the circle, Lambert has pitched 78.1 innings in school ball across 16 appearances, striking out 62 and allowing opponents to hit just .236 against her. In the batter's box, she hits .519 with five homers and 30 RBI. Lambert has garnered recruiting attention from top programs and attended camp at LSU and Texas A&M during the offseason. Expect more from the Hahnville product over her career.
