New England is home to a number of consistently strong Division I college programs, and the Granite State's high school and club teams often populate those programs with stars in the making. In 2024, there were 10 players from New Hampshire playing Division I softball — twice as many as its neighbors, Vermont and Maine, combined. The class of 2030 is hoping to continue that pipeline, with several strong recruits making their cases already.

Below, Prep Softball highlights five 2030 prospects to watch in New Hampshire.

Lily-Anne Cartier has a keen eye at the plate, waiting patiently for a pitch she can drive. When she gets it, it's hard to keep her in the ballpark, and she can change the complexion of a game in an instant with one swing of the bat. Even a pitch above the upper boundary of the strike zone isn't enough to miss Cartier's barrel, and she combines her power with blazing speed on the basepaths, legging out easy triples. But Cartier is more than just a power hitter. She will send solid line drives back up the middle and take an extra base if a ball is bobbled in the outfield. A two-way player who spends most of her time at third base and shortstop when not pitching, Cartier applies clean tags on would-be base-stealers. In the circle, she uses a drop ball to get ahead in counts, and when she lands her curveball on the outside corner to right-handed batters, many of them can only watch it go by and then walk back to the dugout.

[player_tooltip player_id='152606' first='May' last='Hoebeke'] finished out her fall season in spectacular fashion, going 4-for-5 with three doubles at her final tournament in early November. She has a smooth, inside-out swing and can get her arms extended on outside pitches, driving them to the opposite field over outfielders' heads. When the defense overplays her opposite-field prowess, Hoebeke can pull the ball into the gap as well. She has excellent bat-to-ball skills and can barrel up pitches in all quadrants of the strike zone from right-handed and left-handed pitchers. Defensively, Hoebeke will leap out of her catcher's crouch to pounce on pop-ups in front of the plate, and she always remembers to back up first base on infield grounders. She attends Lurgio Middle School in Bedford and is a member of the Polar Crush organization, having previously played for the New Hampshire Lightning.

Emma Dyer stars on both sides of the ball. She has one of the most mechanically sound swings of any player her age, keeping both hands on the bat all the way through the ball as she hits hard line drives and deep fly balls. But she may be even better in the pitcher's circle. Dyer throws hard and uses late vertical movement to leave batters swinging at a black hole as the ball dips below their bat paths. She had 14 strikeouts at a late October tournament, with her curveball perfectly complementing her fastball and drop ball. Dyer has also been working on a changeup this winter, and when she has all her pitches working for her, she can tie hitters in knots and induce awkward-looking hacks. She has challenged herself against a higher tier of competition as well, playing in a 16U tournament in late September and banging out multiple solid hits.

Brielle Duffy's best pitch is her screwball, which breaks in sharply against right-handed batters and can leave them backing out of the way, even while the ball remains in the strike zone. She has an easy delivery without too much extra movement going on, helping her thrive against older competitors. Facing 16U players at a tournament last fall, Duffy worked a three-up, three-down second inning, striking out the side in order using her breaking and off-speed pitches. She also played outfield and third base that weekend and hit her second home run, a towering fly ball that cleared the fence in left-center field for a two-run shot. Duffy started middle school with a top velocity of 43 miles per hour, but reached 55 mph by the spring of her seventh grade year. Her strong arm is also an asset in the outfield, where she can double off runners who stray too far away from their bases after she hauls in a putout.

A powerful left-handed pitcher and slugger, Rory Moaratty is no free swinger — she forces pitchers to give her what she wants, and when they do, she can hit majestic blasts that soar well beyond the fence thanks to her lightning-quick bat. She cleared the right-field wall with ease at an event last fall at Keene State College, bringing in a pair of teammates along with her. Perhaps most impressively, Moaratty possesses outstanding strength for her age. She plays first base when she's not pitching and is also a swimmer and ice skater.
