Five Must-Watch Players This Fall Season

As the fall softball season gets underway, a new wave of talent is stepping into the spotlight. From power at the plate to game-changing speed and standout defensive skills, these athletes are already making their mark.   Below, Prep Softball highlights five must-watch players who are set to keep turning heads on the field this fall season and beyond.    Samiyah Zellars keeps a very busy athletic schedule between high school softball in the fall in Georgia and basketball during the winter months. Zellars has proven to be a bright spot this season for 5A Arabia Mountain. She leads the state's junior class in batting average with a .765 mark. Zellars may only have 24 plate appearances to date this season for the Rams, but she has done the most with her time at the dish, as evidenced by the seven home runs she has slugged. She has also helped her team greatly with the speed she has displayed on the basepaths with her 24 stolen bases.      Another prospect who partakes in multiple sports, Kayleigh Garcia occupies her athletic time away from the softball diamond with track and field events. Garcia's heroics at the plate have contributed greatly to the 14-3 season her 4A Palmer Ridge currently enjoys. She has followed up a solid freshman season with a sophomore campaign for the Bears in which she has posted a batting average of .435. The four home runs that are part of her 2025 resume are among the state's leading sophomores in that category. When the season began, Garcia was moved to the leadoff spot in Palmer Ridge's batting order after stealing 21 bases last season. That move has paid dividends for both her and her Bears.      We have written about St. Michael the Archangel's softball program extensively here at Prep Softball. After all, the Guardians are 11-4 as of this writing, and have a pair of sophomore names at the heart of their order leading the team to more success. Lyla Ventimiglia is one of those 2028s. She showcases defensive versatility, as she can play either at second base or in the outfield. Ventimiglia is more of a contact hitter than one who does so for power, as she has put together a batting average of .512 through 15 games. She has also scored 31 runs and driven in 12 more. Ventimiglia has walked on 13 occasions and has an on-base percentage of .672 thus far this season.     Anyone who is in their first season playing at the varsity level is hoping to put the rest of their state on notice. Hadley McDowell has done just that and then some for Gretna East this season. She is responsible for roughly half of her Griffins' victories, as she has built a 7-2 record along with her 1.98 ERA. Not only does she lead the state's freshmen in earned run average, but she is also the lone 2029 prospect with an ERA that is below two. McDowell has also only allowed 16 earned runs and 15 walks, while striking out 81 batters. Her stellar work in the circle is complemented by what she does defensively at first base and as a utility player.     The Tigers of 5A Tahlequah have been one of the stories of the season across Oklahoma high school softball. Alex Kimble's play has not only ensured Tahlequah's stellar record of 24-3, but the Tigers have yet to drop a game on their home field this season. Many opposing batters have been left guessing thanks to Kimble, as she has retired 65 hitters via the strikeout, which ranks among the state's leading freshmen in that category. Kimble also has an 8-2 record along with a 2.75 ERA. Her pitching success this season has also included one complete game, four shutouts, and a pair of no-hitters.
