Five Defensive Specialists Who Turn Hits Into Outs

Great teams are built with players who prioritize every part of the game, and that includes a strong emphasis on defense. In many games, it becomes the difference between wins and losses, successful tournaments and getting bounced from a bracket.   Below, Prep Softball highlights five players who have made a name for themselves as defensive specialists who routinely turn hits into outs.    Cali Rybicki took over for Munster High School this spring and immediately took the reigns of the starting catching job. When she's not behind the plate garnering a perfect fielding percentage through 25 games, Cali moves all around the field, seeing time at third base, second base and in the corner outfield positions. She's an incredibly athletic defender with the skill set to succeed everywhere her coaches put her. Cali is already a tremendous backstop, but possesses the intangibles to move anywhere her team needs her.     Aubrey Still is an incredibly dedicated softball player who works tirelessly to improve her game. She parlayed a strong defensive season at Clovis East into a breakout travel ball season with the So Cal Athletics, and is looking to put herself on the high school map in 2026. Aubrey completed a perfect fielding percentage as the primary catcher for her team this spring season, while filling in tremendously well around the field, typically at third or second base.     Addie Davis broke onto the varsity team this past spring and hit the ground running. The freshman played in 25 games, mostly behind the plate, but also as a middle infielder, committing just one error all year. She's a sturdy player for both Tahlequah and Epic National who has evolved into a reliable piece for both teams. While her bat is coming along, she's worked tirelessly to improve all aspects of her game, and is turning into the type of reliable backstop every team looks for.     Lexi Hakola is exactly the type of corner infielder who handles things on the field for a winning team. In 25 games played this spring for Marysville High School, she accumulated a 98.9% fielding percentage with 176 putouts, while also turning four double plays and committing just two errors. She's continued to improve her game at first base with ground ball and pick work, as she hopes to be the long-term answer for her teams at one of the toughest positions on the softball field.     Having a standout outfielder takes a tremendous weight off for any coach. Noa Kammerman is exactly the type of player a coach wants patrolling the outfield in every scenario. Since the moment she cracked into the Yorktown varsity team's lineup, she's been a winning player in every aspect of the game. She uses her tall frame and incredible athleticism to glide across the field and get to any ball quickly and seemingly without much effort. Noa is the type of player who makes the hard plays look routine, and the spectacular gems look easy.
