The Grit Factor: Five Players Winning With Hustle And Heart

It takes drive and determination to improve a player's softball skills. The class of 2027 catcher has exemplified the hustle and heart it takes to be a strong competitor. As a sophomore, Adrian led Melissa High School in three offensive categories: batting average (.604), on-base percentage (.701) and slugging percentage (1.337). Adrian was an offensive force on a team that was a top-ranked high school squad in the country. Tollestrup ranked third in the country in stolen bases (74). She has shown her hustle and heart both on and off the field, and has worked tirelessly to improve her game. Her effort showed up in her stats this season. She improved her batting average from .460 as a sophomore to .647 as a junior. Tollestrup maintained that mark while still hitting for power with a 1.022 OPS, which is the highest mark of her three varsity seasons to date. A versatile defender who can play shortstop, third base and center field, Tollestrup is verbally committed to UNLV. She was named to the Academic All-District team, while also collecting Second-Team All-State honors. Young, a corner infielder and right-handed pitcher, slashed an impactful .385/.468/.492. She handled her first varsity season with ease on the field this year. Young had a .944 fielding percentage in 23 games played with 30 assists and one double play made. In the circle, Young worked mostly in relief for Saint Michael. She made one start in 15 total appearances. Playing in 10 more games this season, McHenry was consistent at the plate and disciplined in her approach. She had more walks (24) than strikeouts (20), compared to a freshman season in which she had more strikeouts (23) than walks (12). McHenry, a shortstop, utility player and right-handed pitcher, also hit for more power this year. She connected for 12 doubles and 14 home runs in 101 at-bats. McHenry also played a key role in Donelson Christian Academy's state championship victory. The sophomore slugger was a force in the squad's lineup. She led the team in batting average (.440), home runs (5), runs (36), hits (40) and slugging percentage (.747). As a sophomore, Diboll also pitched in relief for Berwick. She made 28 appearances, one start and finished with a 6-6 record. Diboll registered 144 strikeouts in 67 innings pitched, and held opponents to a .137 batting average. She plays summer ball for United Fastpitch-Perilloux 16U.
