Nine times out of 10, July brings the highest temperatures of the year. This means maintaining peak performance not only means staying sharp at the plate, in the circle and in the field. It also means battling the elements of scorching weather. Ensuring proper hydration is an excellent way to stay at 100 percent, even when the temperatures are highest.

Without further ado, here are five players who have been primetime performers so far this scorching summer.

An intriguing prospect from 2A Manteo in North Carolina's Outer Banks, Makenna Gray wears the gold and purple of Lady Lightning Gold during these travel softball months. Gray is a multi-sport athlete who has also competed in volleyball throughout her career. What she does in the circle is particularly what makes her a name to watch. Last season, she was part of a Manteo team that finished with a record of 16-8. Gray was 9-6 with an ERA of 2.35, while also striking out 121 batters as a freshman. Her team participated in the Carolina Cardinals East Coast Firework Showcase, where it won its bracket with a 5-0-1 showing. Gray hurled 13 innings, faced 46 hitters and fanned 23.

There are great ways to bring plenty of momentum from the high school season to summer ball, and then there is the best way, which is by winning a state championship. Adalynn Fugitt got to experience that championship euphoria this past season when her 4A Panthers won state hardware at Bradley University in Peoria. Fugitt wears the uniform of the Oswego Liberty, and her team also took part in a Centennial State event, the Colorado Sparkler. Her squad finished with a 3-1 record and she put together a .750 average with nine hits, one home run, eight runs scored, six RBIs and six stolen bases.

Abby Jamros will have one more season in the high school and travel ranks before she brings her talents collegiately to the Roos of Missouri-Kansas City. She set plenty of records last season for Seneca in Missouri, including for batting average at .585 and doubles with 23. Jamros has worn a number of different travel uniforms throughout her career, but it is with Vision Arkansas where she currently excels. Her team took part in the Colorado IDT just outside of Denver and had a game where she was a home run shy of the cycle. Jamros had a .566 average during the weekend, including five extra-base hits.

Kennedy Childers is a multi-sport athlete who also has played volleyball throughout her high school career. She is the textbook definition of how the comeback can be stronger than the setback. Childers underwent surgery to repair her ACL and meniscus and is more than making up for lost time with MS Bombers 16U National/Knight. At the Colorado Sparkler, Childers helped her team to a 16U Supplemental Power Pool Championship following a win over the California-based Corona Angels 16U Coleman squad. She hit .560 with a slugging percentage of .800, one home run and nine RBIs. She is more than poised to finish with a flourish next season with Bessemer Academy.

Kaedyn Maxwell was part of a Cinco Ranch team in the Houston area that concluded its 2025 season with a record of 26-6. The rising junior center fielder plays up in class with Texas Blaze KTX 18U Clark. She and her teammates took part in the Tulsa Elite Wilson Invite in Oklahoma and made the most of their time north of the Red River. Maxwell hit .500 with three runs, three stolen bases and a pair of walks. Her second day included a double and an inside-the-park home run. Maxwell helped her team advance to the bracket portion of the invite, concluding her time in Broken Arrow with three more hits and a .500 average in the two games her team played that day.
