With the help of a strong team around her, that's exactly what Yelli Calvo did this spring. She dazzled with her defense at shortstop and batted an incredible .710 with 37 runs scored and two triples. This summer, she'll be participating in the PGF All-American Game, which serves as another example of her incredible work ethic and ability to bust out of a crowded area of softball talent.

Prep Softball covered Maddy Kevern last year as one of the top players in Ohio. Since then, she's gone on to win a state championship for the first time in her high school's history. She is your do-it-all athlete who will shut down opposing lineups, while also holding firm as a strong middle-of-the-order bat. Just a few days after winning that state championship, Maddy posted a video on X showcasing her pitch mix, tee drills and upcoming summer schedule with Finesse 16U. She's a player who never stops looking to improve and is constantly focusing on ways to better her game.

Norah Jacques is as organized a student and person as she is a talented athlete. Outside of softball, the Virginia Class 6 Region Player of the Year juggles Girl Scouts and a demanding academic curriculum. Then she steps into the circle and is dominant. This spring, she posted a 0.77 ERA with a .138 batting average against, all while hitting .571 with five homers. It was an incredible year that helped her earn a spot on the Colorado 4th of July Future Stars team. She has worked incredibly hard on and off the field to fine tune her game, and she continues to chip away each day to become a better player. In a couple years, that work ethic will likely take her to the college softball ranks.

Marissa Snyder threw a pitch in Hampton's state championship game and lost feeling in her hand. Then she stayed in the game and helped her team win the state championship. There's nothing grittier than that. Marissa is an elite-level pitcher with 264 strikeouts through three high school seasons already and has finished both of her varsity seasons batting well above .400. She is incredibly detailed in her approach to pitching and constantly tinkers with her pitches to make them even better. Marissa has a strong desire to play at the next level and has set herself up well to do so.

Jaylah Booker is used to playing above her age group, and hasn't missed a beat since joining Impact Gold Premier and dominating against athletes more than two years older than her. The Klein Oak utility player can post up anywhere around the circle and be effective. She couples a swift glove with a dangerous bat. Known for her composure and thirst to improve, Jaylah is quickly shooting up national boards and turning herself into a can't-miss prospect for the class of 2027. This summer will prove to be another challenge for Jaylah, but she's done everything possible to rise to the occasion and dominate.

Grit and a strong work ethic are two of the hardest intangibles to teach in softball. Most of the time, the high-level athletes who have these qualities have worked at it for years, dedicating a regimented approach to softball that has turned them into national stars and future college athletes.
