Alongside these well-known names, however, are numerous under-the-radar players who are significantly impacting their teams and impressing observers with their performances.</p>   <p>While these athletes may not always be in the spotlight, their work ethic, skills, and game-changing abilities deserve recognition. </p>   <p>Below are some of California's under-the-radar high school softball players who merit more acknowledgment this season leading up to summer ball.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Sorcerers</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Alicya Robertson is a dynamic and dependable player who excels in offensive and defensive roles on the field. As the leadoff hitter for Castro Valley High School, she has a strong contact bat with gap power, consistently finding ways to get on base and create scoring opportunities. Defensively, her keen instincts and quick first step make her an exceptional defender at second base, where she showcases a strong and accurate arm, effortlessly making difficult plays. This is the main reason she has been a starter at second base for the Castro Valley team. Robertson was named a 2024 Second-Team All-League selection and has received various awards for her performance as a multi-sport athlete in basketball. Robertson has had an impressive start to the 2025 high school season, boasting a batting average of .472 and a slugging percentage of .611, while also scoring 16 runs at the time of this writing. Alicya Robertson excels in athletics and maintains a 3.49 GPA, showing her ability to balance academics and sports. She consistently demonstrates discipline and a high softball IQ on the field. Torres is well-regarded for her contact hitting and exceptional plate discipline. She is among the top three players on her high school team, boasting an on-base percentage of .545 and 13 walks, along with a batting average of .355. A particularly memorable moment for her this season was her walk-off double, showcasing her ability to excel under pressure. Defensively, her travel coach notes that she is one of the most fundamentally sound first basemen in her class, boasting an impressive fielding percentage of .990. In 2024, she played a vital role in her travel team, the Sorcerers, contributing to their success. Haygood has had an outstanding start this high school season, serving as the team's starting shortstop while showcasing her ability to play multiple positions effectively. Offensively, Haygood has demonstrated impressive strength at the plate. She boasts a .560 batting average, a .625 on-base percentage, and an outstanding OPS of 1.265. Haygood consistently delivers in clutch situations, contributing eight RBIs and scoring eleven runs. She has only struck out twice this season, showing her aggressive yet patient batting with six walks to her credit. Defensively, Haygood has proven to be a reliable infielder, maintaining a .938 fielding percentage with thirteen putouts and two assists. Lee is a corner infielder for Cordova High School and the California Breeze, with an outstanding season featuring a .571 batting average, .647 on-base percentage, and three home runs. She is undoubtedly a player you want at the plate when there are runners on base. Defensively, she is a reliable infielder who utilizes her quick reflexes to make outstanding plays and demonstrates strong leadership on the field. Her athletic abilities extend beyond softball—she competed on the varsity basketball team for two years and played flag football, showcasing her versatility and athleticism.
