These athletes excel defensively behind the plate, while also making a strong offensive impact for their teams.   Below, Prep Softball examines five underrated high school catchers to watch this spring from all across the United States.    Addison Arnold is an outstanding catcher from Dover, Tennessee, known for her quick reflexes, strong arm, and commanding presence behind the plate. With a pop time of 1.72 and an overhand velocity of 66 mph, she effectively prevents opposing baserunners from advancing, while maintaining excellent control of the game. She played 80 innings during high school season, recorded zero passed balls, and caught seven runners staling. Arnold's skills at framing pitches, effective blocking, and managing pitchers make her a valuable asset to any team. Not only is she excellent behind the plate, but she is equally impressive at the plate. Arnold has an outstanding batting average of .500 this spring, a .537 on-base percentage, and a .659 slugging percentage. Her strong technique and power enable her to drive the ball with authority, making her a consistent offensive threat. She maintains a 4.0 GPA off the field, while taking Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors classes. Addison's exceptional skills in catching, combined with her offensive production and dedication to her studies, make her a player to watch closely.     Regan Hendrickson is a standout catcher known for her leadership and power. She confidently commands the game, working well with her pitchers and directing the defense effectively. Her ability to block, frame, and manage the game makes her an invaluable asset to her teams. Offensively, she is a consistent contributor. As her final high school season begins, she boasts a .389 batting average, a 1.051 OPS, and a .667 slugging percentage. So far, she has amassed four doubles, two home runs, and 11 RBIs. She has had four multi-hit games and only one hitless game so far this season, showcasing her reliability at the plate. Beyond athletics, Hendrickson excels academically, maintaining a 3.993 GPA at the Tesla STEM High School, which is known for its rigorous curriculum focused on science, technology, engineering, and math. Her ability to balance elite academics with high-level softball reflects her impressive work ethic and determination. Regan is set to do great things as both a teammate and leader on and off the field.     Chaney McCance is a talented multi-sport athlete for Southside Charter High School. Off the field, she balances her athletic commitments with her academic pursuits, maintaining an impressive GPA of 3.9, which demonstrates her dedication beyond sports. She also ranks in the top 10 percent of her graduating class and has accumulated several leadership awards. On the softball field, she commands attention both behind the plate and across the diamond. As a catcher, she has exceptional reflexes and a pop time of under 2 seconds, preventing stolen bases from taking place. McCance uses her leadership skills to effectively communicate with pitchers and the defense. She is truly a game-changing player. At bat, McCance is a force to be reckoned with, showcasing her powerful swing that earned her Offensive MVP honors. In addition to her ability to drive the ball into the outfield, she displays her speed on the bases, often turning singles into doubles. She is also a proud member of the Arkansas Blast 18U team, showcasing her versatility and athleticism. Ultimately, Chaney is a standout talent known for her competitive spirit and work ethic.     Ava Fleischman is an exceptionally well-rounded athlete recognized for her dynamic playing style and impressive skills. As a catcher, she commands the position and easily handles riseballs. Fleischman's strong athleticism is complemented by a deep understanding of the game, which enhances her sharp softball IQ. She is known for her strong arm, preventing runners from stealing bases. In addition to her physical skills, she demonstrates leadership behind the plate, using her voice and extensive knowledge of the game to guide her team. Offensively, Fleischman is a formidable force. She is a gap-to-gap hitter who consistently demonstrates power, making her a significant threat, especially when runners are on base. Beyond her athletic abilities, she maintains an impressive 3.95 GPA, demonstrating her commitment to excellence in both the classroom and on the field. Her relentless pursuit of improvement and work ethic set her apart from other athletes in her class. In sum, Ava is a dedicated player and valuable asset who achieves excellence both academically and athletically.     Mikalynn Kinder is an exceptional student-athlete known for her impressive athleticism, leadership skills, and determination. As a catcher and utility player, she has a strong arm, powerful bat, and great work ethic. She has achieved an impressive .636 batting average this high school season and a 1.386 OPS at the time of this writing. Last year, Kinder earned All-Conference honors and received the Offensive MVP award following her remarkable freshman season. Behind the plate, she demonstrates her strong arm, accurate throw-downs, and quick release. At the plate, Kinder consistently showcases her power and ability to put the ball in play with every swing. Kinder is known for her athletic skills and humble yet fierce mentality, consistently demonstrating her commitment to both personal and team growth. She also maintains a 4.25 GPA while balancing her academics and athletics, making her a well-rounded and driven student-athlete who is ready to excel at the next level.
