Top 2028 Prospects To Watch In Maryland

In Maryland, some high schools have already begun their non-conference slates and begun the trek to the state tournament that is still a couple months away.   Below, Prep Softball highlights five of the top players from Maryland in the high school graduating class of 2028.    [player_tooltip player_id='103658' first='Tiffany' last='Mewshaw'] is already a dynamite player in the circle and has the stats to show she could develop into one of the top pitchers in the state of Maryland. Through incredibly successful summer and fall seasons, she posted a 3.00 ERA with 103 strikeouts through 70 innings of work, all while batting .500 with an OPS of 1.208 and driving in 27 runs in 38 games. Even when she was brought up to the 18U level, Tiffany continued to hold her own, posting a lower ERA with 11 strikeouts through six innings in a strong tournament. She's starting out this season on the JV team at Northeast, but could help the varsity squad down the stretch this year before becoming a staple of the staff for the next three seasons.     Getting onto an 18U travel ball team, especially USSSA Maryland, before turning 14 years old, is quite an accomplishment. But when someone with Ava McQueen's skills and talent comes along, it's clear from the start why she catapulted her way through the travel ball circuit at such a young age. Ava stands in the batter's box with the poise of someone who's already committed to a top college, and her swing is free, easy, and leads to an absolute explosion of the ball. Behind the plate, she has an accurate arm and is quick to get out of the crouch. Throughout the next few seasons, she has the chance to become one of the top offensive weapons in the state.     Emery Mackin is a two-sport athlete who also dominates on the AAU basketball circuit. But when she's in the pitching circle, Emery possesses an extremely poised talent that has allowed her to mow down opposing hitters with ease. She utilizes being a lefty to her advantage by bringing her breaking pitches in tight on left-handed hitters and keeping her fast stuff against righties close to the vest. When she's not in the circle, Emery's highlight reels are full of powerful swings that often lead to home runs that don't just squeak over the fence, but soar out of the park. Emery is a talented athlete who helps her teams in nearly every facet of the game.     Much like Emery Mackin, Katelynn Doyle has developed into an extremely talented player on both sides of the ball. While she continues to grow an already mature arsenal of pitches in the circle, her bat routinely shows the presence needed to fill out a lineup at the varsity level. Her pitches have incredible late movement on them that fool hitters, as they dance away from bats and into the catcher's glove. Meanwhile, Katelynn's swing allows her to drive the ball to all parts of the field and keeps her strikeout totals down. As she continues to grow as a softball player in the next few years, Katelynn has the chance to turn recruiters' heads and be a key piece of a team at the college level.     Madalyn Anthony has quickly made her way through some of the top levels of travel softball in Maryland and beyond, dominating on her way to higher heights in the process. Despite standing at just 5-foot-3, Madalyn packs a strong punch both behind the plate and at it. She has a really strong swing and an eye at the plate that would make anyone think she's an upperclassman. Behind the plate, her arm strength really shines, especially on her throws down to second base that land exactly where she needs them to. It's hard to poke many holes in Madalyn's game, as she is already such a fundamentally sound softball player.
