The junior had a breakout 2024 season, leading the state in batting average and ranking second in home runs, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage. Overall, she hit .781 at the plate with 60 RBIs, 17 HRs, 14 doubles, a 1.859 slugging percentage, and a 0.831 on-base percentage. In other words, if you need a player who can hit for power, get on base, and drive in runs, Mangrum is a perfect choice. The Albuquerque product recently played in the Alliance Fastpitch (AFP) Stars of Tomorrow series in Rosemont, IL, while her club team, NM Suncats 16U, finished third overall at AFP Open Nationals.

Put simply, Jhenna can do it all. Not only did she rank second in the state in batting average, hitting .778 for the season, but she also ranked second in strikeouts, racking up 245Ks overall. Pitching for the Estancia Bears, she went 20-1 in the circle, leading her team to the championship tournament for the second straight season. In addition to her batting average, she drove in 51 runs, hit nine triples, and led the state with an .840 on-base percentage, which also happens to rank 10th in the nation. There is perhaps no player in the state more versatile than Valencia, as she can contribute in all facets of the game. With her continued improvement from season to season, look out for a monster campaign from Jhenna during her junior year.

Kamora Henry is a workhorse and a beast in the circle. Throwing just over 126 innings overall this past season for the Aztec Tigers, the righthander struck out 181 batters, good for fourth in the state, and posted 15 wins along with a solid 2.54 ERA. The Tigers advanced to the third round of the championship tournament. Hailing from the northwestern part of the state, Henry was the only Class 4A softball player from San Juan County to make an All-State team, earning second-team honors. Considering she more than quintupled her strikeout total compared to her freshman year, one would expect another breakout season for Henry as a junior.

Similar to Valencia, Liliana Villanueva can contribute to a team both in the circle and at the plate. For the 2024 season, she hit .517 with 15 HRs, and her 61 RBIs were good enough to lead all schools in 5A and rank second overall in the state. In the circle, she struck out 109 batters for the Sandia Matadors. She is one of the few pitchers who can boast that she struck out at least one batter per inning. Her performance on the softball field earned her First-Team All-Metro honors. The threat of being a power hitter, while also being an ace in the circle, means she is not a player to take lightly.

An integral part of one of the top programs in 3A, Bella Saiz had another successful year in the circle for the Cobre Indians. The hurler struck out 158 hitters in only 84 innings pitched—that is nearly two strikeouts per inning. Perhaps even more impressive, after allowing 36 walks her freshman season, she only allowed 11 walks in all of 2024. It all added up to an appearance in the championship game for her squad, which resulted in an eventual 4-1 loss to West Las Vegas. Success on the softball field is nothing new to Saiz, as she already won a state championship in 2018 as a member of the Copper Minor Girls softball team.

The Land of Enchantment has more than just its beautiful surroundings. Look closely enough and you'll find that softball also thrives there. From Albuquerque in the central part of the state, all the way up north to Aztec, New Mexico is home to plenty of softball players who not only deliver in the circle, but also at the plate.
